Combine the big game of
Mikumi National Park with the eastern arc forest, waterfalls and endemic primates of
Udzungwa Mountains National Park.
Mikumi is also an IUCN Important Bird Area and is outstanding for raptor viewing.
Udzungwa is part of the Eastern Arc mountain range, know as the 'Galapagos of Africa' owing to its high degree of endemism.
Below is an example tented camp itinerary (note other accommodations are available depending on your budget):
Day 1. DAR TO UDZUNGWA
Your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel in the morning and you will transfer by 4 x 4 to the
Udzungwa Mountains stopping lunch in as you go. Here you will stay at our own
Udzungwa Forest
Lodge / Hondo Hondo based at the foot of the
Udzungwa Mountains. The camp is situated in lush surroundings with easy access to shorter and longer treks/walks into the
Udzungwa Mountains. Dinner and overnight in their Ensuite Tents on full board basis.
Day 2. FULL DAY UDZUNGWA
Spend a full day in
Udzungwa. You can choose to go for a shorter walk around the camp or embark on an approximately 2 hour trek up to Sanje waterfalls (the hike is a bit steep in places) - depending on the water level you can have a refreshing dip in the plunge pools once you reach the top ($30 in park fees pp + $10 for the guide to be paid directly at the gate). Alternatively relax at the camp and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. - or take one of our mountain bikes and explore the surrounding area. A visit to the nearby village can also be arranged with the camp manager. Overnight at Hondo Hondo once again in their Mud Huts on full board basis. Keep an eye out for monkeys and elephants that frequently pass through the camp!
Day 3.
Udzungwa TO MIKUMI
Leisurely breakfast at the camp before heading towards
Mikumi National Park. Lunch followed by afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at TanSwiss
Lodge on full board basis
Day 4. FULL DAY
Mikumi
Spend a full day exploring
Mikumi with lunch box, look for large prides of lions and the elusive leopard, Giraffes, elephants, bufallos, Impala, Zebras etc. All meals and overnight at TanSwiss
Lodge on full board basis.
Day
5.
Mikumi TO DAR ES SALAAM
Breakfast and morning game drive before returning to Dar es Salaam and dropped off at the Airport to board your flight back home/hotel in town. Tour End!
